Shekinah Joy Lee is a native of Miami, Florida, and has grown to call Birmingham, Alabama her second home after several years. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor. She has always had a desire to help others manage their mental health. However, achieving this dream did not come without its challenges.
After losing her father at age 17 and dropping out of college two years later, Shekinah knows all too well the challenges of grief and loss of purpose. It wasn’t until enrolling at Miles College that she was able to regain focus and truly pursue her potential.
Shekinah completed her BS in Education with honors and vowed to assist as many as she could in the process of developing purpose. She went on to graduate with her Master’s in Counseling from the University of Montevallo and shortly after became a Nationally Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor while pursuing her master’s at the University of Montevallo. She is now pursuing her Doctorate of Marriage and Family Therapy.
Inspired by her students and family, Shekinah created Purposed Joy, a self-care-based business and platform dedicated to de-stigmatizing the conversation around mental health through radical self-care-based activities and programs. Shekinah has learned through years of practice that it is imperative to facilitate an open and inclusive environment for emotional, mental, and spiritual growth for each individual client’s success.
In her leisure time, Shekinah enjoys many recreational activities, including dancing.
